although the educated man is perfectible the poor man is unable to recognize the need for both natural and preventative checks, which prevents the unstable ratio between food and population. Malthus believed that " population, when unchecked, increases in geometrical ratio"(page 95, modern world reader) This ratio is negative because while the population increases, the need for food will also go up. Therefore, there will be a point when there will be not enough food to support the growing population. Malthus also thinks that the poor man is unable to recognize the need for these checks. " when the wages of labor are hardy sufficient to maintain two children, a {poor} man marries and has five or six." ( page 97 modern work reader) Concluding that the people who cannot afford the food and supplies, have the kids, the need for checks like poverty, famine, wars and plague are needed to keep the population stable. - Natasha Snapper

  1. Natasha, you have a great thesis and good specific quotes that help to prove your argument. However, your analysis could be a little deeper. Take one more step, you have a great basis, add a "so what?". For example, because there is a need for food, what will happen?

  2. Good paragraph! i think you should re-write your concluding sentence because it sounds a little awkward in the middle and connect your second quote to your paragraph.

  3. I liked you first piece of analylis and evidence because it was precise and to the point. Your second piece of evidence should have some analysis. -Evan Megan

  4. I liked your thesis, it really helped get the point across but I do think you should re-word your conclusion. Try not to use the word "concluding"
